#INVESTINWOMEN TOUR

Over the last year and half #GoBeyond has been touring with Chloe Capital to document their #InvestInWomen tour, where they have seeded over $1M in capital across half a dozen ventures in Boston, Binghamton, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, and New Orleans. Our next stop: Charlotte to focus on folks who are redefining the future of ed-tech.

OVERCOMING OBSTACLES

"We face so many challenges. Sometimes we allow ourselves to let our life’s struggles define who we are and how we perceive ourselves and our self-worth. The hardest obstacle I have ever had to overcome was convincing myself that I am not my life’s challenges. That I am powerful beyond measure.”

THE WAY FORWARD

"We have to recognize that we’re all more comfortable with what is familiar. Venture capitalists bring in new venture capitalists and founders who look like them, predominantly white and male, because people are comfortable with familiar faces. Yet what we really crave is unfamiliar places.

Unfamiliar faces may be uncomfortable to you. They don’t make you feel safe. But they bring you to unfamiliar places, which is what we all crave and need in this world right now.”

CHLOE COMMUNITY: HOUSING A VILLAGE

"We don’t start doing things differently until we see that they can happened differently. I was kicked out of my house at 16 and in a lot of ways had to forage my own way. As much as I learned to trust myself. I really learned to trust others and to lean on others, and that we actually can’t do anything in this world alone… Seeing what unstable housing does laid the groundwork for what I know needs to be done in the world. How people need healthy housing to have healthy lives.”

Bec Chapin, NODE Eco

ROLE MODELS: CHANGING THE GAME

"Not only are African American entrepreneurs less than 1% of venture capital recipients, we face a lot of barriers in hiring, press, and fair competition.

We don’t have a lot of role models that are showing us that we can be at the top of the game changing major systems such as the food that we eat every single day. I knew that I wanted to be a scientist early on when a number of my family members were diagnosed with chronic diseases like diabetes. So having role models from my grandmothers, all the way to supportive investors like Chloe Capital is a game changer for me.”
